The Birds, the Bees and All Those Trees: Maine Poets Write About the Natural World - Judy Hakola, Instructor

This 4-week winter 2025 Zoom course is a collaboration with Belfast Senior College (BSC) with students from both PVSC and BSC members participation.
Classes will be recorded.

Every day in Maine is itself a poem about nature, and in this course we will share our insights about that "poem" in its many manifestations. Maine poets who write about the natural world inspire us to see the familiar from a different angle or discover aspects we hadn’t thought of before. All of them will help us understand the natural world more perceptively while coming to appreciate the power of their language. Participants are not expected to be experienced readers of poetry but rather will be invited to share their reactions to these windows into our state's soul.
 Registered participants will receive a recurring Zoom link two days prior to the first class and a reminder on the day of the following classes. Please save the Zoom link.

Instructor: Judy Hakola
Judy Hakola is a retired university English teacher who still loves teaching. She has taught various forms of Maine literature both at UMaine and for Down East and Penobscot Valley Senior Colleges as well as having done presentations on that topic around the state. Judy's  approach to teaching is informal and encouraging, and she wants participants to do just that--participate (but no one will be called on to do so).
