Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) is an 8 week class that was pioneered by Jon Kabat-Zinn in 1979. MBSR has abundant evidence for being helpful in treating chronic pain (highest level of medical evidence for chronic back pain), anxiety, and is helpful with other medical issues along with being effective in teaching different meditation techniques. Please note:

  • Due to the positive effects this course can have on your wellbeing, it is important to be able to attend all of the class sessions. If you think would have to miss more than one, it is suggested you wait to take it at another time.
  • Daily meditation “homework” is an important part of this class. After just 3 weeks of daily meditation, the same positive changes can be seen on functional brain MRI in new meditators, as in those who have meditated for decades.
  • This course will have one special class with extended time. More information will be shared with registrants.

Instructor: MARY EYERER, M.D.
Mary Eyerer became a Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) teacher to be able to share how to meditate with others. This practice has sustained Mary for over 25 years. She has found the positive effects of MBSR are far greater than simply learning a mediation practice; they affect all of a person’s life, including improving quality of sleep, reducing and managing chronic pain, improving relationships, and providing a sense of ease in the world.
Mary is one of two certified MBSR teachers in Maine. For more information, please visit https://www.mindfulnessmaine.org/
