Rustic Furniture Workshp -  Orland, ME

Through demonstrations and one-on-one instruction, participants, who may be complete beginners to woodworking or not, will design and build a small table or bench suitable for a lamp or potted plant. They will learn about local trees, harvesting and seasoning, the use of modern and antique tools, mortise and tenon joinery, glues and finishes, and setting up a shop on a modest budget.

A tool list will be discussed in the first class and a $30 materials fee collected, payable to the instructor. (No tools are needed for the first class.)

This is a unique limited participant (minimum 4, maximum 6) hands-on 4-week course, held in Orland at Wayne Hall's workshop. It begins on Tuesday Sept. 24th at 1:30. Please register only if you are able to attend all four sessions.

Instructor: WAYNE HALL
Wayne Hall makes contemporary sculptural furniture from natural materials, primarily trees and parts of trees. Among the places he has taught are the Center for Furniture Craftsmanship, Peters Valley Craft Center, Haystack Mountain School of Crafts, and Duke University. Wayne has been Adjunct Assistant Professor in the Art Department at the University of Maine, Orono since 2000. His work is available largely through galleries, and he is always open to discuss commissions or for a studio visit. His work brings some of the vitality, mystery and sometimes serenity of the forest into your home.
