Opera for Beginners - 6 week Zoom course with recordings
Tuesdays 1:30-3:30
September, 24, October, 1, 8, 15, 22, 29
Excellent acting, imaginative staging, interesting stories, and gorgeous music. Today’s opera productions can be deeply satisfying—far removed from the stereotype of helmeted, screechy sopranos and difficult music. With the wonders of video streaming, all the magic is available to us as never before. In this course we’ll walk through a few popular operas and talk about what to look and listen for. We’ll take a brief look at opera’s history. And we’ll preview some of the Metropolitan Opera’s simulcasts that will be shown at the Collins Center in coming months.
This is a 6-week Zoom course. A recurring link will be emailed two days prior to the first class, and on the morning of each additional class. Recordings of classes will be emailed to registered participants with viewing option for two weeks after each class.
