Gender Matters: Gender and Sexuality Discussion (A One-Day Presentation on Zoom)

This presentation "Gender Matters" includes a presentation on major issues of today in  gender studies and sexuality, followed by a discussion in which participants will be able to ask related questions. 
Some of the terms and topics that will be covered include:




  •      pronouns


  •      gender vs. sex


  •      lesbian, gay, bisexual, pansexual, asexual, and queer sexualities


  •      nonbinary, genderqueer, trans, trans femme, and trans masc  gender identities 




The presentation incorporates elements of the safe zone project and will explore how to foster productive discussions surrounding gender and how to 
navigate pronoun usage. Participants are encouraged to email smksenior2020@gmail.com in advance with any questions they'd like to have discussed.

 

Presenters: Lydia Balestra and Taylor Houdlette
Lydia Balestra (she/her) and Taylor Houdlette (she/they) are currently working on their English Masters degrees and have worked for / currently work for the Women's Gender and Sexuality (WGS) Department at the University of Maine.
They have both taught "WGS 101"--Introduction to Women's Gender and Sexuality Studies, and "ENG 101"--Introduction to College Composition. Both Lydia and Taylor have been active in the local community for five years.
They welcome questions and discussion during this presentation.
