Introduction to the Ukulele - Six-week course
Welcome to any Senior who has always wanted to play the ukulele!
This is a first-time PVSC Zoom course that offers basic hands-on introduction to playing the ukulele. Prior ukulele or musical experience is not required and music theory is minimal. Techniques for expected discomfort, including stretching, to make playing less painful will be discussed, so don't let arthritis exclude you from participating.
Materials needed: Purchase or borrow a ukulele from Bangor Public Library, another local library, or another source; choose soprano, concert, or tenor (but not a baritone) ukulele.
Downloadable handouts will be sent out through PVSC website, along with the Zoom link.
Maximum class size is 20.
Instructor: Paul Halvachs
Paul says he was the kid the teacher told to STOP singing because he was so off-key and off-time. However he came from a musical family, married a gifted musician, and loves music.
Learning to play and sing, FOR HIS OWN PLEASURE, was at the top of his retiree bucket list. He says after failing to learn the guitar and the Scottish drum, he took a night course called "Intro to Ukulele." The ukulele became HIS instrument.
Paul helps coordinate the "Bangor Ukulele Revival, a local amateur group of ukulele enthusiasts. He wants to share what he thinks of as important to the new player including diverse topics such as ukulele purchasing, maintaining, and making a ukulele sound better.
